Sustainability, and making a difference.

Recently, I wrote an editorial for Inside Kent, a local magazine. I contemplated ‘kitchen trends’, ‘best kitchen design ideas’, ‘best kitchen gadgets’, etc., but I wrote about sustainability. But not because our ethos has changed - we have always been grateful for the natural resources we use, and we choose them and use them carefully. Sustainability has always been a focus of ours. However, it has also become a buzz-focus for most industries: and rightly so.

We have one world; we must look after it.

So. I wrote about that. Because, although it has always been at the forefront of our project-managing, it has since become a huge determiner in customer choices: we all want to do what we can, therefore, choosing sustainability-focused companies helps. And, we are that.

Because.

We design and make beautiful, bespoke, natural kitchens. Whether you require a traditional yet simple country Shaker-style or a sleek and modern flat-panelled style, our design processes are thorough, and we draft examples until we, and you, are certain it is exact. Not only is this because we want it to be right for you, but it is also because we want it to be right when it is made - so the materials we use, are used once, and correctly.

You see, natural resources make our kitchens, and we owe it to our world to use them wisely and to repay where we can. Naturally, we use PETA and FSC regulated timbers and solid woods to make our cabinets and drawers; our paints are mostly all water-based; and we work with as many local or UK-based company suppliers as we can – many with the same objectives as us – making our company footprints carbon-neutral.

Likewise, the appliances we choose to promote are also those which value energy efficiency – in fact, we have fitted way more hot water taps than standard taps in the last few years – and their benefits reach beyond energy efficiency too; believe me – I am an avid tea drinker!

We really do want to help our environment where we can. Sustainability is not just a buzz-focus to us.

So, we are proud to promote that our kitchens are thoroughly bespoke, custom-designed, and only made once their design is agreed. In addition to this, being naturally made, our kitchens can last a lifetime – and, can be easily updated as fashions change.

Our sustainability also extends to our team. Our designers are based in our showroom in Bethersden, Ashford; directly next to them is our workshop, where we make and assemble all our furniture. Our trained and very skilled team members are locally employed and know that sustainability is important too. For example, our workshop avoids waste – we cannot leave materials unused, making efficient use of the timber materials ordered for each kitchen. Any off-cuts that really cannot be reused, we use them to heat the workshop. And, our installations are mainly kept within the South-East, delivering our cabinets without using plastics or wasteful wrapping.

We do know there is so much more we can do – and, we are working on it. For example, our brochures - we have just made these available to browse online; and, our showroom can be explored virtually.

However, we think that it is important that you know that we care about our world as much as we care about your kitchen: we cannot have one without the other.

If you would like to meet with one of our design team to discuss how we can help design and make your new and sustainable kitchen, call us on 01233 822595 or email info@collinsbespoke.com.

We would love to help.
