Kitchen Trends 2020

You did it - you survived Christmas Day - hurrah! We hope you are all having a lovely time with your families. We’re sending extra special thoughts to those in the middle of renovation projects - celebrating in caravans - give yourselves some big pats on the back!

As 2020 is nearly upon us, we thought it would be really useful to put together a list of trends on their way in. Of course, a Collins Bespoke kitchen is a timeless addition to your home and the features you choose will look beautiful for many many years to come. But, here’s some inspiration to get you started anyway!

Open Shelving

Whilst we all want our kitchens to be practical living-spaces, we also want them to show off personality and style. It’s easy for a kitchen to be both functionable and a statement space, and the desire for open shelving to be included within our designs is something we are seeing more and more. Open shelving provides the perfect spot to display pretty accessories, including: crockery, ornaments, glasses, plants and artwork. We’re predicting this trend to continue into 2020 and probably for many years to come. French dressers really lend themselves to seasonal styling and theming too…

Handles

…or not?

The latest contemporary designs are all about a multi-tasking and free-flowing space. Some customers prefer to go ‘handle-less’, and with technological advances in push-open and close doors, it’s now possible! However, many of our customers opting for a more modern style of kitchen prefer integrated J-handles which provide the same sleek feel.

Having said this, beautiful bespoke cabinetry still really does lend itself to being dressed with equally beautiful handles. We love the ranges by Armac Martin. As a family owned and run business, they are committed to manufacturing in the UK, which we also love! Whilst chrome handles will always be a timeless choice for Shaker-style cabinetry, we’ve seen a rise in much bolder choices. Chocolate Bronze, Matt Black and Burnished Brass finishes are popular choices and fun to colour-match accessories, ornaments and taps with. A black tap is definitely on my wish-list this year!

Colour

It’s probably going to be the biggest decision you’ll make when planning your new bespoke kitchen, so it has got to be right. We always work so closely with our customers to ensure their dream colour is achieved and there are a few colours looking to storm 2020.

Grey is timeless and classic. Shades such as Farrow and Ball’s Pavilion Gray and Dimpse will forever be a popular choice. The beauty of decorating with grey is its extreme versatility. Unlike many colors, grey can be warm or cool. Even if you choose a kitchen filled with beautiful grey cabinetry, you can still treat your island as a separate piece of furniture. For a grey kitchen, choose island colors like black, charcoal grey, or blue.

We’re seeing a rise in crisp blue hues too! The colour blue triggers feelings of relaxation, peace, quiet, grandness and expansiveness. When used inside the house, blue creates the same feelings of tranquility, space and luxury. It is also a well-known stress reducer, helping to slow down your heartbeat and lower blood pressure. Blue kitchens are right on-trend, blending perfectly with Shaker-styles as well as minimalistic, modern designs.

Double Islands

The kitchen island has become an essential feature for many of our customers, especially in larger open-plan spaces. And, when space is no object, a pair of island units have become the latest luxury design element. Double islands create an even greater sense of zoning within the kitchen - a spot for food prepping and another for casual dining - the dream, right?

Natural and Dark Stained Oak

As 2019 ends we’ve started to see less and less of the traditional honey oak, with the demand for more natural and darker stained oak on the rise. We’ve a feeling this new trend will continue into 2020 and beyond! It really is the perfect way to make a pretty statement, whilst remaining classic and subtly luxurious.

Pantries

Gone are the days of having a dark little pantry to house dry goods hidden away from prying eyes. Today’s kitchens boast roomy pantries with shelving aplenty for cereals and collectables. We are bespoke, thoroughly bespoke, so we can design and make your pantry exactly to suit you and your requirements. Aesthetically pleasing organised cupboards and shelves are absolutely storming Instagram and Pinterest right now - especially pantries.

Coffee Machines

Coffee connoisseurs have never had it so good. Thanks to developments in coffee machine technology it’s now possible to turn your own kitchen into a first class espresso bar and ensure your home brewed cup of Joe rivals the best baristas in town. Like us, many of our customers LOVE coffee and an integrated machine is often on the top of their appliance list. Our designers are able to offer some really great advice on which coffee machine to choose, and - lucky for you - we are Siemens dealers.

Larder

I honestly believe I’ll be writing this every year. Everyone still wants one. And, why wouldn’t they? Our larders are meticulously hand-crafted, thoroughly bespoke and designed to suit the lifestyles of our customers. They offer the perfect storage solution with deep drawers, easily accessible spice racks and tons of shelf space. A larder is a timeless, charming and a wonderfully useful addition to a bespoke kitchen. A beautiful statement-piece that’s on trend and endlessly swooned over.
