Kitchen Trends for 2022

January.

Traditionally, the month we start planning new projects. And, top of the list is very often home renovations; may be, a new kitchen.

Being the hub of the home; the most used room; and, even more so, since 2020, when many of us started working from home – the kitchen’s purpose has changed. It is no longer a source of food creation: it is a room where we socialise and entertain, relax and, sometimes, work - or try.

So, if you’re planning a kitchen renovation this year, what are the trends?

Be brave, be bold.

We have noticed an increase in more creative and braver, bold cabinetry colours. Our clients are certainly opting for more experimental and individual shades of greens and blues. And, we love this green which our New Cottage clients chose. It works so well the brassy, copper accessories.

Green is most definitely becoming a popular colour of choice, too, says Rachael Johnson, kitchen designer for Collins Bespoke, “Muted green colours, and I am so here for the green! Especially F&B’s French Grey.”

Nick Collins Creative Director and Designer for Collins Bespoke says, “With regard to colours, I'd say the soft blues are still very popular – they are positive and calming colours, with the bolder dark blues of a few years ago making a resurgence. Timeless colours like F&B’s Purbeck Stone and Hardwick White are always a safe bet for period properties and the more subtle kitchens.”

Our kitchens are becoming reflections of our clients and their own creativity too: we love this orange cabinetry. In fact, the whole kitchen is so wonderfully finished. You can check it out, here, soon.

Accessorise.

But, what for those of us not yet ready to plunge into the depths of the rainbow? Adding splashes of vibrant colours also really really work.

These lime green bar stools, for example.

Rachael also says that, “customers are becoming more confident and braver with their personal touches and I think backsplashes will become more 'Jazzy' with more eccentric tile choices.” They are areas that can be made really individual and stand-out, without affecting the kitchen ambience.

As for hardware, it's all about the Burnished and Aged brass colours still. They contrast painted kitchens so well, I am not surprised. I think vintage furniture, too ... I feel like customers are going to have cabinetry in their kitchen which will look somewhat vintage like it's been there forever! And, in turn, the more vintage style handles, I think will become more popular too – for example I love these by Armac Martin.

Customising the Cabinetry.

As a bespoke kitchen-design and making company, we are led more by our clients than by typical trends. However, we have started to design and make a few kitchens with integrated home-offices, or cabinetry that allows sectionalising the different elements required from the open-plan kitchen-living – such as bar areas - the new out-but-in movement, as well as hidden utilities and boot-rooms.

Big on our ‘want’ lists, we have seen the boost in pantries - watch this space for a feature soon - some of our kitchens’ pantries warrant features of their own.

Sustainability

The 2022 buzz-word – and, for good reasons because we are all trying live sustainably: we owe it to our world. And, the kitchen is part of this.

We know the worth of a beautiful painted, wooden kitchen - we do those – and, how much better for the environment it is. But, wooden kitchens are becoming more popular. As well as natural stone worktops – these are standard features in a Collins Bespoke kitchen.

Then there are those little extra steps, which include smarter appliances such as Quooker hot-taps and Siemens’ whole amazing smart appliances range. Or, upcycling quirky furniture features . Rachael adds, “I also think less people will go for the ‘matchy’ look and will rather go for a mixture of styles which work cohesively together.” One of our clients, the Offham Road kitchen, is a really wonderful example of this and has already been picked up by a few local publications to share.

 Give the Kitchen the Room

With more neutral platforms, such as soft-white walls and light-coloured tiled floors - LVT in light-washed oak with Herringbone patterns being popular - kitchens can be the statement in the room. Many of our clients are also being very creative in their island pendant light choices, too. But, mostly, the 2022 trend appears to be making the kitchen the room of the house.

And, rightly so.

We spend more time in our kitchens than most of the other rooms in our homes. They deserve the attention. So do we.

If you would like to talk to Nick, Tom or Rachael about your new kitchen, do email us at info@collinsbespoke.com or call 01233 822595. We have a lovely showroom we’d love to show!

Of course, our designers’ observations are just a few. Check out these articles for more ideas that we like – and, many examples we have already included in some of our designs too.
