Preparing For Your Design Consultation

So, you’ve decided 2020 is the year for your new kitchen. And, you’ve decided the only way to go is bespoke. Which means you’ve already completed step one in preparing for your design consultation, because you’re here - well done! Our design consultations are free, friendly and are a super helpful way to begin your new project. From here, we’ll provide an initial estimate and plan, and produce some beautiful renders of the space we envisage, together. Your design consultation will last around an hour (or more), so give yourself plenty of time - we’ll happily fuel you with tea and good coffee!

Before you visit our showroom and chat to our designers, there are a few things we suggest doing and considering.

So, where to begin?

Make a Wishlist

Check out Instagram, Pinterest and our website for some inspiration. Jot down everything you want you’re new bespoke kitchen to include. From cabinetry styles to sinks - screenshot, screenshot screenshot. Build up your own mini portfolio of ideas and things you like. Have a think about what this new living-space will mean to you. Is it a place for entertaining? How many do you need to accommodate for? Of course, you want this to be a practical space, (as well as beautiful) which is something our designers can really help with. But, it’s handy to have a good idea of what you want from YOUR bespoke kitchen, that is completely and utterly bespoke to YOU.

Things to consider:

  • Cabinetry Style - Beaded-Shaker, Plain-Shaker or how about something a little more contemporary?

Do you like the simplicity and modesty of the Plain-Shaker, with its clean lines and versatility? Or, perhaps it’s the more refined and intricate Beaded-Shaker that’s caught your eye? OR, is it a more modern look you’re swooning over?

  • Worktops/Splashbacks

Working with local stonemasons, we provide lovely worktops made from stones such as quartz, or more natural granites and marbles. Our worktop options are so vast, and really are beautiful finishes to our cabinetry. Check out our projects on here - what do you like the look of? If you’re struggling to decide between quartz or granite - visit this blog we posted last year - http://www.collinsbespoke.com/collinsbespokeblog/2019/8/20/worktops-granite-vs-quartz - it might help! And, when it comes to splashbacks, what’s caught your eye? Perhaps, it’s a gorgeous antique mirror? I love them!

  • Appliances and Plumbing

From sinks, taps and integrated wine coolers, to fridge-freezers and coffee machines, being an independent kitchen designer and maker, we source and can source every element that makes your new kitchen. Our designers’ knowledge is fantastic and they can suggest elements that will work brilliantly with your design and your own ideas.

Have a think about appliances that are going to make life easier for you. Whether that be an instant boiling hot water tap to speed things up, or a wine cooler for…just, well, because.

  • Extras and Internals

Think practically! If you think you’re going to have a tricky hard-to-reach corner, then a Magic Corner is going to be really beneficial. How about some larder bottle racks or an integrated recycling bin system? Many of our customers decide they want a bespoke cutlery divider - or two, too!

Not sure what to include?

It’s always really helpful when our customers visit us with some ideas and thoughts about the space. But, please don’t worry if your struggling with ideas. We know it can be slightly overwhelming and we’re here to help. Our designers have lots of experience in transforming ideas into real, handcrafted, bespoke kitchens - ready to entertain every day life. They are experts in what they do and have a real passion and interest for creating your dream kitchen.

Floor Plan

Bringing a floor plan along to your design consultation is going to be really helpful. Our cabinetry is priced per linear metre, which means with a floor plan, we are able to put together an initial estimate and plan together after your meeting.

Budget

We’re sure you’ve already thought about this one. But, having an idea of budget is a really good idea. That way, our designers can try and keep within your budget when putting together your plan.

Timescale and Information of Structural Work

We normally work on a 8 - 12 week lead time, from the final design sign off. Let us know when you’re hoping to have your kitchen installed and if you are working with any builders etc. We understand that sometimes a kitchen project is part of a much larger house renovation project - so it’s best to keep us as updated possible with progress to your property and the timeframes of other companies you may be working with.

I hope this has been helpful?

All of our kitchens and cabinets are made by our team of skilled craftsmen in our workshop. Proud of their art and skills, we make our kitchens with dovetail joins for drawer boxes and our cupboard doors are traditionally in-frame. Above all, what we do is thoroughly bespoke. Even to the placing of the last drawer handle - often another very personal preference!

We look forward to welcoming you to our showroom - get in touch and I’ll be more than happy to book you in for your design consultation.
